Hello friends!
It’s the middle of the week. We’ve got this.
I wanted to share some writing prompts with you that I have been using lately because they have been so helpful. I haven’t journaled in a really long and it feels good to get back into it. Something about pen and paper and uninterrupted time provides me with the wisdom and comfort I need for the day. Here are five minute journaling prompts you can try if you are feeling anxious or need some clarity this week.
for when you are anxious….
Set a timer for 3-5 minutes if you want (or no timer and stop whenever you want) and on top of the page, write this down: “What I know to be true…”
When you’re ready simply make a list of all the things that are true right now. For example, this is what I wrote.
When you take the time, even for a few minutes, to note what is true, it helps you to focus on truths rather than the hypotheticals which can cause even more anxiety. I am really good at the hypotheticals. Just these simple 4 truths I wrote down regarding some things I am facing, I felt grounded and it allowed me to focus on what is working.
for when you need clarity….
Here are two prompts to try for when you are unsure of what to do next:
What is getting in the way? What is my job in it, and what is not my job?
This prompt will help you get clear on what is in the way of making that decision and focus on what is in your control and what is not.
What is important to me in making this decision?
This prompt doesn’t say, what will you do? When you are unsure between two or three choices, I find it helpful when I shift the focus to what’s important to me. For example, maybe the decision is based on financial security because that’s what is needed. Maybe the decision is what will give you more flexibility in time.
There is no shame in what your reasons are because at the end of the day, you are the one living with the choice. I recently made a big decision that was led by “which one will cause me less stress.” It may sound silly, but lessening my stress especially right now is exactly what I need. This alone made the choice easy.
Do you journal? What are some of your favorite or go-to prompts? Have a great rest of your week!
love,
